Better Off : Flipping the Switch on Technology, by Eric Brende
This book is a very interesting chronicle of a "modern" young couple's experience living in an Amish community for 18 months. A lot of food for thought...

The Amish are a religious group derived from the Mennonites which came from Germany in the 1800's.

They live off the grid, and shun electricity, cars, pneumatic tires, and even buttons (yes buttons! they use straight pins instead!)

The Amish cater to family and will not sacrifice their family and religious values for the almighty dollar. God is an important mark of their daily life and activities.

We are blessed to be working with the Amish and their quest for autonomy and religious freedom. They do not pay income tax, or vote, they attend their own schools and live under their own law. They are a peaceful people but will not back down for the freedom of their family.

Would that we could all be a bit more like the Amish. We English (as they call anyone who is not Amish) live a fast life and often forget about the important things in life.

Freedom, family, and a quality of life that caters to God is the Amish way of life.

We will never have a photo of an Amish family here, as we respect their rights to privacy. We do upon occasion have photos of a workshop or a farm, and we have asked and been given permission to take an image. We are happy to answer questions about the Amish and what they are all about.

Your bedding, pillows, mattress and even our furniture has a peaceful energy to it. It is not rushed or frantic, it is slow, steady and natural. The Amish will not be pushed, they are too German for that! WE work with the Amish because we respect how they treat family and others. We want to give you the best product we can, at an affordable price.
